Children with cerebral palsy, particularly in rural areas, face numerous challenges. These include limited access to specialized medical care, mobility aids, and therapeutic services. Cerebral palsy affects motor skills, muscle tone, and movement, making everyday activities challenging. In rural areas, the lack of infrastructure and resources exacerbates these difficulties. Limited awareness and support services can also lead to social isolation for these children and their families.
Boikanya and the Dion Herson Trust are dedicated to transforming the lives of children with cerebral palsy, focusing primarily on those in underserved rural communities. They provide essential mobility aids, like custom-designed buggies, crucial for enhancing the children’s mobility and independence. Additionally, they offer access to therapy and support services, which are vital for the children’s physical and emotional well-being. These organizations work to improve the quality of life for these children and raise awareness and understanding of cerebral palsy in these communities.
Supporting organizations like Boikanya and the Dion Herson Trust is crucial because they fill a significant gap in services and resources available to children with cerebral palsy in rural areas. Each donation, no matter the size, has a direct impact. It helps provide mobility aids, which are often expensive and beyond the reach of many families. Donations also support ongoing therapy and essential services, empowering these children to experience improved mobility and a sense of independence. By contributing, donors are part of a collective effort to create tangible, positive changes in the lives of these children.

On the 14th of March 2024 (40 years to the day of my mom’s passing) I will join this magnificent group of volunteers in a rural hospital in Tshilidzini in Shayandima, Thohoyandou, Limpopo to refurbish and fit mobility buggies. I cannot think of a more fitting way to honour my late mom, and your donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated and goes a long way to making a difference in the lives of these precious children.
